During my time as an Executive Fellow, I led an initiative to learn more about the commuter experience here at UCR — being a fellow commuter, I was curious to learn more about the shared experience we had as commuters and as well as what things we did to manage. I conducted a survey alongside Chris, another fellow commuter, which helped formulate an image of what other student's commutes and experiences looked like.

The survey exemplified valuable insight into how student's feel about commuting to campus, as well as understanding key information about their commute and their concerns. Here is a summary of the Survey's Insights.

In conducting the survey, I recognized that the Commuter Experience overlapped in both Internal and External Components, and that there was no one platform that would oversee a concern without overlapping with another.

With all input, I proposed the creation of a committee — SB-S25-015 — Otherwise known as the “Commuter and Transportation Committee." It aims to provide commuters a platform that can specialized in their needs, while also serving as a basis for collaborative efforts between other offices in ASUCR to address commuter-related concerns.

It sits under the Office of the President.

I hope the role this committee can serve in ASUCR, and in the community, is to centralize and streamline Commuter-Related Initiatives.

As for the committee itself, we hope to address and accommodate for Transportation Concerns, and to work alongside other parties, organizations, departments, and institutions alike that can support our mission — to build a more comfortable commuter experience.
